AmeriCorps VISTA

AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is a national service program dedicated to ending poverty by building the capacity of nonprofit organizations and public agencies. 

What do members do?

By joining AmeriCorps VISTA at CPSEMO, you’ll dedicate 12 months to full-time service, where you’ll focus on strengthening our programs and expanding our impact. Your role will involve a variety of critical projects, including:

  • Creating sustainable systems that broaden our service capabilities

  • Implementing effective marketing strategies, both online and through community outreach

  • Writing and securing grants to fund essential programs and initiatives

  • Establishing a strong volunteer network, including developing databases, training programs, and recruitment processes

  • Conducting community needs assessments to guide program development and resource allocation

  • Forming and nurturing partnerships that open up new economic opportunities for the communities we serve

  • Developing and enhancing youth programs that empower the next generation with skills and resources

  • Supporting job programs that provide training and employment opportunities for underserved populations

  • Developing and implementing strategies to increase organizational capacity and long-term sustainability

Your contribution will be vital in driving meaningful, lasting change across Southeast Missouri.

  • If you move 50+ miles from your home to a new community, you receive relocation travel assistance and a settling-in allowance. 

  • Choose between the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award ($6,895) to pay for education expenses or a cash stipend ($1,800).

  • Receive in-person and virtual professional development opportunities.

  • Qualify for NCE, a unique hiring path that makes it easier for federal agencies to hire you.

  • You may be eligible to receive a child care benefit if you have children under the age of 13.

AmeriCorps VISTA connects individuals with nonprofit organizations, public agencies, and tribal governments to enhance their capacity and create lasting change that reduces the impact of poverty. Through activities like fundraising, volunteer recruitment, and program development, AmeriCorps members gain valuable experience and leadership skills, preparing them for a future in the public, private, or nonprofit sectors focused on service and community impact.
